Catherine (Cathie-Caterina Abbruscasto) was born during WWII in
Baucina, Italy, a small town near Palermo, Sicily. In 1946 her parents and
siblings boarded a ship to America, leaving Catherine behind due to a
delay in her visa. She would make the same journey a year later at 4 years
of age, a daunting voyage for a grown adult, let alone a child. Once in
America, she was reunited with her family in New York. The traumatic
experience found her glued to her mother's side, never wanting to be
separated again. Raised in Long Island, she attended school in West
Babylon, graduating high school in 1961. In 1964, Cathie met Harry F.
Norman Jr. and were soon married in 1965. They were blessed with 4
amazing boys, twins Harry III and Gregory, Sal and Daniel.
In 1976, they moved to suburban New Jersey, where they raised their 4
boys. Cathie was employed for 12 years with Owens Illinois Corporation in
Freehold, NJ. In 1990, they relocated to The Woodlands, Texas where
they resided until 1993, before moving to Florida. Cathie spent the last 26
years with her husband in Spring Hill, Florida where her affinity for artistic
hobbies blossomed. Cathie loved: cooking, sewing, embroidery,
knitting/crocheting, and all kinds of different craft making, Cathie enjoyed
making dresses for her granddaughters and holiday costumes for all 12
grandchildren. More than anything, she was proud of her four boys, their
wives, 12 grandchildren (8 girls/4 boys) and 2 step-grandsons. She will be
remembered for her unwavering commitment to her family and friends; her
enduring courage and strength will remain with us always.
