Catherine J. Redetzke of Waukesha, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on September 28 2024, at the age of 86, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 14, 1938, in Cumberland, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of John F. and Fena E. (nee Strathman) Mackay.
Cathy graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and dedicated many years to teaching English. She began her teaching career at Waukesha High School, where she met her husband, Roger. Throughout her career, she also taught at Central High School, Gray Mare Preschool, and ESL instruction at Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC). A devoted member of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, Cathy exemplified a life of service and education.
Cathy will be deeply missed by her husband of 62 years, Roger; her son Kirk Redetzke and his wife Casey Sterling; her cherished grandchildren, Torsten, Ava, and Kieran; and her sisters, Delores Sogge and Patricia( Rob) Middleton. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Cathy was preceded in death by her beloved son, Erik Redetzke, in 1991, as well as her brother, William “Bud” Mackay, and brother-in-law, Martin Sogge.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until the memorial service at 5:00 p.m. at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, located at 2016 Center Road, Waukesha, WI 53189. Burial will take place at a later date at Prairie Home Cemetery. In honor of Catherine’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the Servant Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin.
