Catherine E. Shuart

Catherine "Cay" Elizabeth Beams Shuart passed on August 22nd at the age of 94. She leaves behind her son, John B. Shuart, two grandchildren, John L. Shuart and Holly Martins, and five great-grandchildren, Oliver, Everleigh, John, Thomas, and Jasper. Preceded in death by her husband, John B. Shuart, and daughter, Catherine Henderson. Devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Cay dedicated her life to caring for her family, friends, and community.
A former resident of Hackensack and River Edge, and current resident of Ho-Ho-Kus, she was an active participant in several community organizations and was the former president of the Women's Club of River Edge 2002-2004. Former office manager for Dr. William Jacoby, DDS, in Ho-Ho-Kus. She spent time on the State Federation of Women's Clubs Board as Historical Chairman 2010-2012, as Committee Hostess 2008-2010; and served on the Convention Committee 2012-2014. An avid gardener, volunteer docent at the Hermitage, member of the Women's Club of Ridgewood, member of bowling and bridge groups, and a world traveler. Cay spent her years after retirement helping others throughout NJ, and spending time with family and friends.
The Shuart family will receive friends on Monday, August 28 from 4:00 until 7:00pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday 10:00 am at St. Luke's RC Church, 340 Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ 07423. Interment will follow at St. Luke's Cemetery.
