Catherine Joan Van Dyke of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, formerly of Greenfield, Indiana passed away on Saturday, August 23rd at Heritage Health Care in Tuscaloosa. She was born October 4th, 1933, in White River Township, Johnson County, Indiana to Fred and Stella Jane (Henderson) Doty. She married Douglas Rhea Van Dyke on December 29th, 1951. He preceded her in death on July 10th, 2010.
She was a 1951 graduate of Center Grove High School. She was previously employed at Farm Bureau of Indiana and Southern Hancock Community School Corporation. She spent most of her time enjoying baking, cooking, sewing, crocheting and gardening. She and her husband spent many years of their retirement at their home in El Jobean, Florida with family and friends. She was a passionate fan of Indiana University basketball and the University of Alabama football.
Survivors include her son Christopher (Nikki) Van Dyke, grandchildren Adam (Luis) Van Dyke, Sam Van Dyke, Madison (Alex) Roth and Mallory Hatchett.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as sisters Marg Sells, Marie Graham, Beulah Anderson, Jean Whitmire and brothers Kenneth Doty, Lawrence “Bill” Doty, Robert Doty and Hugh “Sam” Doty.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. SR135, Greenwood, Indiana. The Reverend Doug Lindle will conduct a service following visitation at 1:00 PM, with burial services at Salem Cemetery.
