Catherine Von Wald Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hillside Chapel, Inc. on Jul. 8, 2023.
Catherine Ann Von Wald passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023. She died of natural causes at the age of 95. At the time of her death, she was being cared for at an adult foster home, where she received excellent care.
Catherine was born on December 28, 1927, to the late Walter and Orpha Middleton in Portland, Oregon. She lost her father at the young age of 6 and was an only child.
Catherine attended Franklin High School in Portland and then went on to Oregon State in Corvallis where she studied business. In 1950, she married the late Harry Norcross and had three daughters. Harry was in the Navy, and they were stationed in San Diego (CA), Taiwan, Bremerton (WA), Puerto Rico, and Norfolk (VA). When Harry retired from the Navy in 1968, he packed up his family and they drove from Virginia to Portland on a two-week adventure. Catherine resided in Portland until her death.
After Catherine and Harry divorced, in 1973, she met and married the late John Von Wald in 1976. She had eight glorious years with John until he passed away from cancer. She always said she wished she had met him sooner as they had a wonderful life filled with laughter and love.
Catherine always had to have a dog as a pet. These included poodles, cockers, schnauzers, corgis, and whatever "Peanut" was. We girls would say we wanted to be reincarnated as one of her spoiled doggies. She is surely being reunited with each and every one of them in Heaven!
Catherine had a wonderful sense of humor which only improved with age. You never knew what she would say and always had others laughing around her. Due to her age, most of her friends have already passed. She was a wonderful mother, devoted wife, and caring friend. Catherine will be missed.
Catherine leaves her daughters to cherish her memory: Mary Ann Gray (John), Diane Kelley (Michael), and Sylvia Flabetich (Dan), along with 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
