Cathy Sanford
Beloved Wife, Mother, Advocate, and Friend
Born: June 29, 1956 – San Francisco, California
Passed: August 3, 2025 – at approximately 7:05 PM (PST)
Cathy Sanford, 69, passed away peacefully on the evening of August 3, surrounded by her family, after
a courageous journey with liver cancer.
Born in San Francisco, Cathy brought warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love to everyone who had the
privilege of knowing her. She was the beloved wife of 51 years to Nathan Sanford, a dedicated military
spouse whose strength, devotion, and grace carried their family through decades of life together.
Cathy was a woman of quiet strength and deep faith. Her laughter, compassion, and calm presence
made others feel safe and seen. She found joy in life's little treasures-tending to her garden, savoring
a cup of coffee, writing handwritten notes, and caring for the family's beloved rescue cats.
She was a loving mother and fierce advocate for her son Brian, especially during his childhood cancer
recovery. Her tireless support shaped his life and helped him become the man he is today.
Beyond her family, Cathy was known for her love of education and spent many years tutoring children
in her community-offering not only academic help, but belief, encouragement, and kindness that
touched generations.
She will be laid to rest at Miramar National Cemetery, where she will receive the honor due to her as
the devoted spouse of a veteran.
Cathy is survived by her husband Nathan, son Brian, and the many friends, families, and students
whose lives were brighter because of her.
The family welcomes contributions to the GoFundMe created in her honor to help with funeral and burial
arrangements: https://gofund.me/3b8a34f3.
Flowers in Cathy's memory may be sent to Bravo Family Mortuary, located at 4427 Rainier Ave, San Diego, CA 92120.
Her love will remain in every garden she nurtured, every child she encouraged, and every life she touched.
