Cathy Pennington Obituary
Cathy was born December 18, 1950, in Greenup, Kentucky, to the late John Howard Darnell Sr. and Alice Jean Burchett Darnell.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years Keith Eugene Pennington, one son, Alex Keith Pennington of Flatwoods, one daughter, Melissa Ann Pennington (Mike) of Burlington, Vermont one brother Dr. John Howard Darnell Jr., 3 grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Cathy lived a life rooted in faith, service, and simple, beautiful joys. A devoted member of Russell First Baptist Church, she carried her love for God into every part of her life, quietly reflecting kindness and grace to everyone she met. As a proud Kentucky Colonel and an active member of the KAAC board, she dedicated countless hours to supporting students and encouraging excellence. Cathy especially loved guiding teams to the Governor's Cup, where her encouragement, wisdom, and belief in young people left a lasting mark far beyond the competitions themselves.
For 48 wonderful years, Cathy shared her life with her husband, Keith. Their love was steady, gentle, and deeply genuine, so much so that just being together was enough for them both. They found joy in the simplest moments, side by side. Cathy also had a special fondness for flowers the prettier and fancier, the better. Much like the blooms she adored, she brought color, warmth, and beauty into the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her faith, her devotion to others, and the quiet way she made the world around her a little brighter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 13, 2026, at Carman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM till the service hour, Friday, February 13, 2026, at Carman Funeral Home.
In lieu of flower donations are suggested to be made in Cathy's honor to the Alzheimer's Association.
All Arrangements for Cathy Pennington are under the direction and care of Carman Funeral Home, 2301 Argillite Rd. Flatwoods, Kentucky 41139.
