Cay Krueger Scheumack, 74, of El Campo, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025 after a battle with bladder cancer. Cay was born on August 24, 1951 to Evelyn and Culp Krueger. She was raised in El Campo, and lived a vibrant life in Wyoming, El Campo, and Rockport, Texas. Cay graduated high school a year early and left Texas to attend the University of Wyoming. In 1983, Cay married C. Duane Scheumack Jr. and together raised four children, Mark, Geoff, Julainne and Chris (and was a second Mom to many of their friends). Cay was an integral part in managing the family businesses including the construction and renovation of beautiful homes in the Rockport area. Cay was a radiant soul whose life was a testament to the transformative power of love and connection. She poured her heart into nurturing her family and friends, creating cherished memories through lavish feasts where all were welcomed with open arms. A woman of boundless curiosity, Cay immersed herself in the world of literature, sharing her keen insights through thoughtful reviews that championed new voices and stories. Her passion for cooking was a legacy she lovingly passed to her grandchildren, teaching them not just to nourish a crowd, but to infuse every dish with care and creativity. With pride that knew no bounds, she celebrated her grandchildren's every triumph, from the grand to the seemingly small. Cay's enduring legacy-of compassion, resilience, and boundless generosity-lives on, an eternal light in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Cay was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, C. Duane Scheumack, and her parents, Evelyn and Culp Krueger. She is survived by her daughter, Julainne Mills (Jason), and sons, Mark Mayer (Katie), Chris Scheumack (Annie), and Geoff Mayer (Sandi). Cay's joy was her grandchildren: Mason Mayer, Barrett Mayer, Donovan Mayer Chloe Mills, David Mills, Sidney Scheumack, Henry Scheumack, Christian Mayer, and Landen Mayer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the El Campo Boys & Girls Club or the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Group. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 18, 2025 at 3:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of El Campo. Cay will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
