Cecelia Perumal, 72, of Ramsey, passed away on August 25th, 2022 surrounded by her family. Born in New York City, she was raised in the Bronx, NY before moving to Elmwood Park, NJ (East Paterson at the time) as a child with her parents and sisters. She lived in Wyckoff, Ho-Ho-Kus and Rye Brook, NY before moving to Ramsey 11 years ago.
Cecelia was a CPA for many years. Starting her career as an accountant for Dorfman, Abrams, Music an accounting firm in NJ and then moved on to work at Bergen County Special Services for many years as an Accounting Manager. She retired as the Business Administrator for Maywood Public Schools in Maywood, NJ.
Cecelia is survived by her husband Perry, her children Sarah (Paul) Eliya, Katie (Ben) Pavao, and Anne (Tim) Kelly, step-children Roger (Chorvey) Perumal, Geoff (Jacqueline) Perumal, Kevin (Nicole) Perumal and Jenny Perumal, 11 grandchildren, and her sisters Lorraine Morotta and Arlene (Robert) Mutzberg, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents James and Lena Coscia.
Cecelia loved her family very much and enjoyed hosting the whole family for Christmas every year. She loved to cook and entertain and surround herself with those who were most important to her. She was an avid golfer and even convinced her husband, Perry, to take up golfing too. She very much enjoyed landscaping and could transform the most barren space into a delightful landscape. She was proud of her Italian heritage and shared stories of the Italian family feasts she would have as a child. A tradition she carried on with many family gatherings in her home.
Cecelia inspired others with her strength and perseverance. She was a single Mom of 3 girls for many years. She fought and sacrificed again and again so that her children would persevere. She was very supportive of other women throughout her life and changed the lives of so many, more than she will ever know. She bravely entered a career that was not typical for women at the time and yet still excelled professionally throughout the years. She faced tough challenges head on, never gave up and encouraged others to do the same. She had a very strong faith, believed deeply in the power of prayer and let God guide her until her very last day on earth.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, August 29th at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 30th at the First Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood, 722 E. Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood, NJ.
