Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vander Plaat Funeral Home - Wyckoff on Dec. 8, 2025.
Fabiola Salazer (nee Bergamo), age 84, of Wyckoff and formerly of Middle Village, New York, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 6th, 2025 with her loving daughters by her side.
Fabiola was born and raised in Nanno, Italy, the daughter of Bruno and Lina Bergamo. She was the second of four children. Fabiola is pre-deceased by her loving husband, Francesco, her parents and her sister Giuliana. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Patrizia (Sanelli) and Susan (Worth) and son-in-laws Thomas and Christopher; her grandchildren who were the center of her world: Francesca, Alessandra, Michela, Christopher, Luca and Joseph; her sister Maria Grazia and her brother Danilo; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Fabiola left her family and small town at a young age to pursue work as a governess caring for children. Through this experience, she was exposed to a different way of life than her humble beginnings in northern Italy. Fabiola was able to enjoy living in beautiful cities such as Florence and Rome, fond memories she would recall often. She eventually met the love of her life, Francesco, also from the same region in Italy. They wed on July 25th, 1970, at the beautiful Sanctuary of St. Romedio in Coredo, Trento. Following their honeymoon in Forte di Marmi and Florence, they left their beloved hometowns and families and embarked on a new life in the United States, ultimately settling in Middle Village, Queens. Here, for nearly 50 years, they lived a wonderful life and raised their two daughters. When Francesco passed in 2020, Fabiola entered a new chapter moving to
Wyckoff, New Jersey to be closer to her daughters.
Fabiola was a loving wife, mother, and nonna who devoted her life to her family. She was always putting her family first, especially her adoring grandchildren. She was a constant presence in their lives attending every momentous occasion big or small. From Communion celebrations, to sporting events to dance recitals, Nonna was always there to support her family. She even temporarily moved to
Washington, DC to be the stand-in nanny for her first grandson, an experience she loved. They could always count on her love, hugs and Nutella sandwiches.
We are forever grateful to have had our loving mom in our lives. While her death was unexpected after a brief illness, we know that she is reunited with our wonderful father.
We will carry her love and lessons in our hearts forever. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
The family will receive their relatives and friends at Vander Plaat Funeral Home on Friday, December 12th, 2025, from 4:00-8:00 PM. The Funeral Mass celebrating her life and faith will be held at Saint Elizabeth of Hungry RC Church on Saturday, December 13th, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah.
