CECIL L. CANNON, Jr. born in Savanah, Georgia to Cecil Cannon, Sr. and Edith (Sikes) Cannon. He grew up in Lansing, Michigan. Cecil had a 26-year career in the U.S. Air Force after a brief stint in the Navy. He was a mechanic on the flight line, then in an administrative job until his USAF retirement. He also served in Vietnam. His second career had him driving all over the islands servicing operating room equipment in his beloved Hawaii.
He and his beloved wife, Mary, were wed for almost 73 years. He loved his family, his friends and just about everyone he met. He loved God with all his heart. He was a gentleman and is remembered by those who knew him to always be kind and caring. He was known for his hearty laugh, his generosity, his sense of duty and his joy. He suffered greatly near the end but was determined to be there for those that love
him. Cancer finally won that battle, but he remained steadfast and courageous until the end. He passed away at home peacefully in North Richland Hills, Texas, surrounded by family and his wonderful hospice caregivers.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Mears) Cannon; daughter Cassandra (Cannon) Durham and husband John Durham; son James Cannon and wife Andrea (Ricci) Cannon; grandson Jared Cannon and wife Megan (Dugan) Cannon; granddaughter Maryanna (Cannon) Sokol; and great-granddaughter Andriana Cannon.
Cecil requested that there be no funeral or memorial. His remains will be interred at the
National Cemetery at an undetermined date. There will be a small ceremony for
immediate family only.
