On Saturday, June 28, 2025, Cecil "Ben" Carter, 89, died peacefully in his D.C. home, with his son, Andrew by his side. Born December 11, 1935, to the late Alfred and Lillian Carter in Bowling Green, Virginia. Ben dedicated his life to his family and served his country and community with distinguished honor.
Ben is remembered with love by his son Andrew Carter and daughter-in-law Lonny Carter. His wife, Sonja Carter, whom he married in 1963, predeceased him, they were happily married for 59 years.
Ben embarked on his career journey with the United States Army, where he served with commitment and unwavering courage until his honorable discharge as a Sergeant in 1963. He continued to showcase his steadfast dedication to his responsibilities when he joined the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) - MetroBus in 1965. He served diligently, mentoring several talented individuals in the transportation industry, most notably his mentee, Ryan Daniel of St. Paul, Minnesota. His well-deserved retirement came in 2013 after 48 years of service.
Throughout his life, Ben was known for his hard work and undying commitment to providing a comfortable life for his wife and son. When he was not working, he enjoyed vacationing in Costa Rica and spending virtually every weekend at his lake house on Lake Anna.
We fondly remember Cecil "Ben" Carter for his selfless service and the joy he brought to every life he touched. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
