Cecil R. Scarrow, age 82, of McCook, NE passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Hillcrest Caring Center in McCook.
Cecil was born on April 14, 1942 to parents Ray B. and Gladys M. (Reeves) Scarrow in Mankato KS. He was one of five children. Cecil graduated from high school in Benkelman, NE with the Class of 1960.
On October 3, 1964, Cecil married Ferma L. Wilkinson in Goodland, KS. They started their family in Benkelman, NE, where he was a farmhand. He spent his days outdoors surrounded by the beauty of nature, working with animals and being a part of the circle of life on the farm where he could see the fruits of his labor.
The family moved to Stratton where Cecil was a welder at Miller Manufacturing before returning to farming. After moving to McCook in 1991, he was able to retire in 2004. Cecil and Ferma coached the kid’s baseball and softball teams during the summer in addition to fishing, water skiing and camping at Swanson Lake. He enjoyed Husker football, driving fast and no, he never got a ticket. Cecil and Ferma loved racing, they spent Friday and Saturday nights at dirt tracks in Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska. On Sunday, they always watched NASCAR where Cecil always gave Ferma a hard time about “baby” Jeff Gordon. Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr were his favorites. The extended family took many trips to Colorado, Texas, South Dakota and Louisiana.
Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Ferma; parents; three children, Jennifer, Julianna and Steven Scarrow; bothers Orville and Larry; sister Barbara Scarrow; Baby Scarrow and and a granddaughter, Brittani Daily.
Those left to celebrate his life include; children, Kevin (Kelly) Scarrow of Shawnee, KS, Jacqueline (Brian) Williams of Lincoln, NE, Allen (Jennifer) Scarrow of Sugar Land, TX; sister in law, Sandy Keister (Bob Evans) of Goodland, KS; sister in law, Cindy Wilkinson of Sharon Springs, KS; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, Adam Daily of Lincoln, NE, Larissa Daily and children, Kane and Jax Daily, all of Lincoln, NE, Kylie Scarrow of Sugar Land, TX, Becky (Chad) Plummer and children, Riley and Leah, all of Manhattan, KS, Heather (Alyssa) Williams and children, Easton and Aedion, all of Firestone, CO, and JaLissa (Jase Jackson) Williams of Lincoln, NE.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Stratton, Nebraska.
Memorial contributions are suggested in Cecil’s name for future designation and may be directed to Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, c/o the Scarrow Family, PO Box 476, McCook, NE 69001.
