Cecil Stacks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bolton Funeral Home - Columbiana on Sep. 15, 2025.
Eugene Cecil Stacks, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 26, 2025, after complications following an automobile accident. A celebration of Gene's long and full life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 10:30 AM on the baseball field at Shelby County High School, 101 Washington Street, in Columbiana, AL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Gideons International, the Parkinson's Society of Alabama, Mission Aviation Fellowship, or Berachah Bible Church, Fayetteville, GA. Gene was born in Red Oak, GA, on September 18, 1939, to Cecil and Jennie Stacks. He graduated from Tennessee Military Institute in 1958 and joined the Marine Reserves. Several years later, he began his career with FEDEX, becoming the first courier hired in Atlanta, retiring in 2001. In 2014, Gene and Becki moved to Columbiana, AL to be near their grandchildren, attending as many of their sporting events and various activities as possible. Gene loved spending time on the water at Perdido Beach, especially mullet fishing and taking his children and grandchildren skiing and tubing. He loved being outdoors, whether working in the yard, mowing grass, hunting, or front porch sitting. He also enjoyed dancing, horseback riding, and watching old westerns. Gene had a fighting spirit, particularly evident when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2023, as well as overcoming a craniotomy coupled with a lengthy stay in ICU and rehab. In recent years, he participated in boxing classes for individuals with Parkinson's. He looked forward to them every week, relishing the challenge and camaraderie. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his seven-year-old son: Chris. Gene is survived by his wife of 49 years: Becki; his sons: Cary Stacks and Corey Stacks; his daughters: Shay (Matt) Reed, Molly (Jacob) Gaydosh, Ruthie (Corey) Braun his grandchildren: Sharon (Heath) Hayes, Tricia (Josh) Barrett, Noah, Jane Matthew, Sutton, Thatcher and Paisley Reed, Maggie, Kenny, Clayton and Lucy Gaydosh, and Silas and Redding Braun; and his great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Luke, Miriam, Christian and Shepherd Hayes, and Eleanor, Annie Ruth, Charlotte and Samuel Barrett. His cup was full! Gene was devoted to the Lord, to his family, and to their beloved dog Rosie. He is deeply loved and missed. We take comfort in knowing that he is experiencing the fullness of joy in the presence of the Almighty.
