Cecil Wincel Thaxton

Cecil Wincel Thaxton, 76, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Roberta City Cemetery, 535 South Mathews Street, with Rev. Chris Minton officiating,
Born in Macon to the late Gene and Aurie Dent Thaxton, Wincel was a lifelong resident of Roberta. A cattle farmer for several years, he took over running his dad's service station when his dad was no longer able. A member of Roberta Baptist Church, Wincel attended Lizella Baptist Church, and served on the Roberta City Council and Planning and Zoning Board for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Gale Thaxton; their daughters, Kim Odum (Craig) and Kristi Buice (Sam); grandsons, Gunner Logan, Hayden Odum, and Brody Logan; nephews, Kerry Dunaway (Robin) and Jed Dunaway; niece, Angel Sorrells(Alan); many cousins, extended family and a number of close friends. He is preceded in death by a sister, Evalyn Dunaway, and several aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, family respectfully requests donations in honor of Wincel be made to Lizella Baptist Church, 2950 S Lizella Rd., Lizella GA 31052. Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley is in charge of arrangements.
