Billy Calvin Harbert, of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at the age of 83.
Billy was born on March 19, 1942, in Toccoa, Georgia, to the late Lowery Harbert and Mary Haynie Harbert. A man of strong character and unwavering dedication, Billy lived a life defined by service, faith, and love for his family.
Billy proudly served his country in the Army National Guard and carried a deep respect for both military and law enforcement throughout his life. That commitment to service continued in his civilian life, where he worked full time as an electrician for the University System of Georgia and was known for his reliability and strong work ethic. Because of his passion for serving and protecting others, he also worked part time as a police officer for the cities of Byron and Roberta.
Those who knew Billy knew him as a stubborn yet strong man—someone you could call on for anything. He was fiercely devoted to his family and was especially proud of his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. To them, he was lovingly known as “Pa,” a title he carried with great pride.
Billy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was a regular at Waffle House and was always willing to travel far and wide for a good piece of homemade chocolate cake. He was an avid reader who enjoyed getting lost in a good book, and he especially loved watching old westerns on television. Billy was also a longtime NASCAR fan, though he often joked that it just wasn’t the same after they changed the championship format.
Above all, Billy was a man of faith who maintained a close relationship with God throughout his life. His strength, devotion, and willingness to help others will be remembered by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Violet Harbert; and dear, lifelong friend, Bob Lynn.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Sheila Harbert Whaley, Pamela Harbert; and Stacy Harbert (Julie); grandchildren, Madison Whaley, Blaise Harbert, Ruthie Harbert, and Evie Brooks; great-granddaughter, Stella Rose Harbert; siblings, Tina Harbert and Doug Harbert; lifelong family friends, Nancy Lynn and Kenny Staines (Annie); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home with a funeral service immediately following in the chapel. Afterward, Billy will be laid to rest in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
For friends unable to attend at this time, the service will be streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/@McCulloughFuneralHome via the McCullough Funeral Home’s YouTube page.
