Cecil M. Thomas

Cecil M. Thomas, a resident of Brooks, passed away peacefully on the 28th of February, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on March 25, 1934, in Fayette County, Georgia, Cecil was the son of the late Bradley and the late Lucile McCullough Thomas.

Cecil's early years in Georgia shaped the man he would become – friendly, handy, and gentle. These traits were evident in every aspect of his life, from his long-standing career at General Motors to his diligent service at the Open-Door Baptist Church. Cecil was a man who knew the value of hard work and the importance of community, and he lived these values every day.

Retirement offered Cecil more time to indulge in his passions for fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was an avid coon hunter, a hobby that brought him much joy and adventure throughout the years. His love for the outdoors was only surpassed by the love he had for his family.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sandra Thomas, daughter, Tammy Thomas, and son, David Thomas. Despite these profound losses, Cecil's legacy of love and strength lived on through his family.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Thomas, who was his steadfast companion through the many seasons of life. Together, they created a tapestry of memories that will be treasured forever. Cecil also leaves behind his proud grandchildren, Erick Erwin (Aindi), Garett Erwin, Travis Thomas (Taylor), and Lindsey Thomas (Brian Bailey), who will carry on his spirit of kindness and resilience. His six great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews, will remember him as a gentle guiding force, a role model to be emulated.

The community is invited to pay their respects to Cecil at the Conner-Westbury Funeral Home on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A graveside funeral service will be held in his honor on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Crossroad Baptist Church Cemetery, 632 Hwy 85 connector, Brooks where Cecil will be laid to rest. The service will be officiated by Terry Topkins, who will help us celebrate Cecil's life and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him.
