Cecile Chapman

Cecile (Cil) Yvette Chapman, a longtime resident of North Haven, CT and most recently resident in Wallingford, CT, died on January 15, 2026, at the age of 96. Cil was born on May 25, 1929 in Providence, Rhode Island, and was the daughter of the late Louis Joseph Turenne and Marie-Blanche-Beatrice-Camelia Armstrong Turenne. Cil was predeceased by her parents and her late husband, Alfred (Al) James Chapman, Jr. Cil and Al were married on July 4,1953 in Willimantic, CT and were married for 71 years until Al's passing on July 17, 2024, at the age of 97.

Cil is survived by Cil & Al's six children - Gail Chapman Carbone of Branford, CT, Craig Chapman (married to Susan) of Greenwich, CT, Doreen Orme (married to Michael) of Willits, CA, Keith Chapman (married to Sunwha) of Huntington, CT, Brenda Fornal of Wallingford, CT, and Adrienne Chapman of North Haven, CT, as well as 13 grandchildren,18 great grandchildren and 4 nephews.

Cil grew up in the French-Canadian community in Woonsocket, RI and lived there until she married Al, spoke only French as a young child, and learned English only after she started attending public school. Cil studied nutrition in college and put her well-learned skills to good use in raising her six children. Cil worked as a teller at the Dime Savings Bank in the Montowese section of North Haven, CT and Human Resources at Blue Cross Blue Shield in North Haven, CT.

Throughout her life, Cil was a mentor, supporter and cheerleader for her children and many of their friends, as well as her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Cil had an open ear, a quick wit, lots of advice, and a warm heart for everyone.

The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven have been entrusted with the arrangements which will be announced at a later date.
