Cecilia Blau

Cecilia Blau, age 95, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025 at Riverside Cottages surrounded by her loving family. Cecilia was born on May 12, 1930, in Bogotá, Colombia, to Jesus and Calixta (Mayorga) Sanchez . She spent her early years in South America before moving with her family to Petersburg, Virginia where her father served as Head of Household Staff for a Virginia politician. As a youth, Cecilia was exceptionally athletic and enjoyed playing basketball and tennis. Later in life she also became an avid golfer and proudly achieved a hole-in-one at Marsh Creek Country Club. Cecilia married and settled in West Islip, New York, where she raised two sons and worked for many years as a dedicated paralegal. In 1993, she relocated from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, to St. Augustine, Florida, where she became a beloved member of Good News Church. Her deep faith was central to her life, and she remained active in her church and Bible study groups. Cecilia was a very tough Latino woman. She was disciplined and taught her boys to be respectful and kind. She will be remembered for her giving spirit, joyful nature, and the blessings she shared with others. Cecilia's life was one of love and devotion. She was preceded in death by her three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her loving son, Richard "Richie" Garcia of Spencerport, NY. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Good News Church with Pastor Smiley Sturgis officiating. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery will follow the service.
