Ceil Shinler of Rush City passed away Monday, March 11, 2024 at her home at the age of 85.
Cecilia Ann Chalupnik was born May 13, 1938 to Henry and Helen (Mlady) Chalupnik in Verdigre, Nebraska. In 1940, the family moved to a farm 5 miles south of Hinckley. Cecilia attended K-12 school in Hinckley. She enjoyed school and activities, especially the clarinet in Marching Band. When Cecilia was 14 and 15 she went to Hopkins during the summer to pick raspberries. The money she earned was used for school clothes. When Cecilia was 16 she was hired at Tobies Bus Stop in Hinckley as a waitress. She worked through summer vacations and weekends. She rented a room and stayed in Hinckley throughout the summer. She graduated high school in 1956 and then attended Gale Institute College in Minneapolis. Six months later she was hired as a secretary for Honeywell.
On June 28, 1958, she married LeRoy Shinler of Rush City at the Saint Patrick's church in Hinckley. They were blessed with seven children and lived in the Rush City area for 13 years before moving to Maple, WI. Six of their seven children were born in Rush City. Two years later they sold their farm in Wisconsin, traveled with their seven children, and then moved back to Rush City. They rented until they bought their five-bedroom home by Shorewood Park in the Rush Lake area. This was their home from 1973-2020.
They had horses, enjoyed snowmobiling, and the children's school activities. Ceil had part time jobs mostly as a waitress. They enjoyed their children who have given them 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Ceil enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She was a very active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed as many family activities as possible. She was an active and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved taking pictures and documenting her families lives. She enjoyed art, home decorating, dancing and boating, leisure club, the red hatters and other groups.
Ceil is survived by her husband of 66 years LeRoy Shinler of Rush City; children Brad Shinler (Judy Gilats) of St. Paul, Linda (Fred) Goebel of Grand Rapids, Debbie (Dan) Sandeen of Grand Rapids, Doug (Shellie) Shinler of Harris, Tammy (Jerry) Scheffer of Rush City, Kevin (Anne) Shinler of Minnetonka, Jodi (Dave) Scheffer of Edgewater, MD; 20 grandchildren Jennifer (Craig) Polding, Lisa (Matt) Farley, Melissa (Rob) Nelson, Sarah (Tim) Fisher, Jesse Goebel, Brad Sandeen (Julia Gutsch), Bryan Sandeen, Maggie (Nathan) Holmes, Ashley Shinler, Austin (April) Shinler, Dan (Jasmine) Scheffer, Jamie Scheffer, Jordan (Janie) Scheffer, Jenna (Charlie) Miettunen, Nikki (Brandon) Milton, Logan (Amanda) Shinler, Alexa Shinler, Madison (Cory) Van Houten, Mackale Scheffer, Mitchell Scheffer; 24 great-grandchildren Kersten Farley, Zachary, Caleb and Josh Nelson, Laney, Leo and Brooks Fisher, Christine and Reed Goebel, Julia and Henry Holmes, Maddox and Memphis Krook, Penelope Scheffer, Riley, Beau and Hank Scheffer, Avery, and Charley Rose Miettunen, Kendrick and Maeve Milton, Kezia and Weslan Shinler, and Kiera Van Houten; sister Pat Dunsmore of Hinckley; sisters-in-law Loretta Peterson of Rush City, Jeanette (Dennis) Frandsen of Rush City; brother-in-law Dean (Joan) Shinler of Rush City; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Helen Chalupnik, father-in-law Maurice Shinler, mother-in-law Irene Shinler, brothers-in-law Cliff Peterson and Robert Dunsmore.
Father Matt Shireman celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial for Ceil on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rush City. The interment took place in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Rush City.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Rush City ~ Olson Chapel.
