Cecilia C. Echavarria, 89, passed away on June 4, 2025, at Carlsbad Medical Center. A visitation will be held at West Funeral Home Chapel, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a Rosary at 6. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at San Jose Catholic Church, Father Mike Buentello will be the celebrant, and burial will take place after at Carlsbad Cemetery (New Section).
Cecilia was born to Carlos and Jesus Carrasco on July 7, 1935, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Cecilia was raised in the Catholic faith, and became a devote Catholic. She read the bible and faithfully recited the rosary nightly.
Cecilia and Roberto met in High school and married shortly after graduation, on January 6, 1957, in Loving, NM. She attended Eastern New Mexico University where she earned her associate's degree in early childhood education. She was a teacher at HeadStart for 25+ years. Through her many years of teaching, she touched many lives.
Cecilia was so full of life, she enjoyed being outdoors. In the summertime, she could be found in her garden, tending to her flowers. To occupy time, she would entertain herself with a good Word Search puzzle. She enjoyed watching her Novelas every night, if any of her children called or visited, she would hang up the phone or tell us to go home. She enjoyed sewing, making blankets for her grandkids. In her younger years, she enjoyed going to dances with her husband.
Cecilia is preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Jesus Carrasco; her siblings, Edwardo Carrasco, Elvira Rodriguez, Enedina Alvarado, and Guadalupe (Lupe) Wilson; her granddaughter, Victoria Campos; and her Son-in-Law Guadalupe (Bo) Ramirez.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Roberto Echavarria; her sons, Ricardo and Robert Jr.; her daughters, Patricia and Sally Echavarria, Sylvia Martinez (Eddy), Carol Campos (Abel), and Olga Ramirez; 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; her sisters, Maria Galindo, Stella Carrasco, and Alicia Herrera; her Sister-in-Law, Maria (Nena) Carrasco.
Pall bearers are Jose Campos, Jimi Hoff, Marcos Loera, Eddy Martinez, Jr., Mark Olsen, Logan Ramirez.
Honorary Pallbearer is Frankie Martinez.
