Celie Johnson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery on Jan. 19, 2026.
Celie Johnson III, affectionately known as "Man" to his loved ones, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 9, 2026. Born on December 13, 1961, to the late Jeanette and Celie Johnson II, Man's life was a testament to the enduring spirit of love, loyalty, and creativity.
Man grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. He was a cherished brother to Charles Johnson (and wife Cheryl), Thomas Johnson, Timothy Johnson (and wife Geneva), Barbara Moss, Linda Mimms (and husband Robert), Susan Johnson and Sheila Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Steven Schaeffer, and his close relatives Nathaniel Lester and Robert Bell. Man's role as an uncle was one he took great pride in, offering guidance and joy to his many nieces and nephews: Chris, Dennis, Naomi, Michael, Sabrina, Regina, Teketa, Patricia, Nathaniel, Stevey, Jeanetta, Stephanie, Phillip, Thomas, Richard, Ki'Brea, Andrekia, and others. His warmth and wisdom will be deeply missed by his family and the many friends who became an extended part of his family.
A proud graduate of Central High School's class of 1980, Man's commitment to service was evident early on as he chose to serve his country in the United States Army. His time in the military honed his values of discipline and camaraderie, which he carried throughout his life.
Man's Christian faith was a cornerstone of his existence, guiding his actions and providing comfort and strength in times of need. He lived his faith through his actions, always ready with a helping hand and a kind word for those around him.
An artist at heart, Man expressed his love for beauty and emotion through his paintings, which were as vibrant and thoughtful as his personality. His musical talents were equally impressive, with the piano and keyboard being the instruments of his soul. The melodies he created and the verses he penned in his poetry will remain as a legacy of his creative spirit.
Man's life was a journey of passion, service, and artistry. His absence will be felt deeply by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. As we say goodbye to Celie Johnson III, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of moments that touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. His memory will live on in the canvases he painted, the music he played, and the love he shared. Rest in peace, dear Man, your spirit will continue to inspire us all.
