Celestino Jose Chavez, affectionately known as Tino, was born on November 4, 1947, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He passed away peacefully in his hometown on August 27, 2025, leaving behind a legacy rich in love, service, and camaraderie.

Tino dedicated a significant part of his life to his country, serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. His bravery and commitment to duty were recognized through the accolades he earned, including two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and a Army commendation Metal for injuries sustained during his courageous service.

Beyond his military accomplishments, Tino was a cherished member of the American Legion, where he cultivated many friendships that endured throughout his life. He was well-loved within his community, and those who knew him remembered him for his kindness and unwavering support.

Tino's family was central to his life. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Chavez, his daughters Tanya Chavez and Eileen Trujillo, and his parents Angelita and Donicio Chavez, alongside many brothers and sisters. He is survived by a loved one Valerie Steele and his grandsons, Justin and Jacob Steele of New Jersey, and his loving sisters, Santana Archuleta (Kennith) of Kansas, Teresa Chavez of Santa Fe, and Antonia Romero of Wisconsin. Tino also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who carry his memory forward.

In honor of Celestino's life and service, a Rosary will be held on September 12, 2025, at Rivera Family Funeral & Cremations of Santa Fe, beginning at 9:00 AM and concluding at 10:00 AM.
