East Providence - Cesar T. Moniz, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025, at RI Hospital Providence. Born on October 7, 1948, in the quaint village of Fenais Da Luz, Sao Miguel, Azores, Cesar's life journey was one marked by dedication, joy, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Cesar was the cherished husband of Maria Cecelia (Melo) Moniz, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring 52 years of marriage. He was the son of the late Joao Tavares Moniz and Margarida Do Amor (Devino) Moniz. His life was a testament to the strong family values instilled in him from a young age, which he carried forward as the loving father of Peter Moniz of Warwick, Suzana Moniz Lacomia and her husband John of Peyton, Colorado, and Diana Moniz Medeiros and her husband Kevin of Westport, MA. Cesar was a proud grandfather to Alexander Lacomia, whose adventures and achievements brought him immense joy.
Cesar was a beloved brother to Gilberto Moniz of Florida, Maria Conceicao Moniz Gonsalves of Providence, Lucia Tavares Moniz of Warwick, and he held close the memories of his late brothers Jose Gabriel Tavares Moniz, Alvaro Tavares Moniz, and Joao Tavares Moniz. His spirit lives on in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews who revered him for his kindness and guidance.
Before settling in East Providence for over 40 years, Cesar had previously lived in Providence and his native Portugal. His service in the Portuguese Army was a period of discipline and pride. Later, he dedicated over 25 years to the American Insulated Wire as a Machine Operator, where his work ethic and camaraderie were deeply valued.
A man of profound faith, Cesar was an active parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Providence. His involvement in his church was not just a duty but a source of immense pleasure and spiritual fulfillment. Cesar's interests and hobbies were as varied as they were rich; he found solace in gardening, joy in wine making, excitement in fishing, and delight in travel. The East Providence Senior Center knew him well, as he was a frequent visitor who enjoyed participating in their many programs.
Those who knew Cesar would describe him as loving, friendly, and faith-filled. His warm smile and generous spirit made him a friend to many. Cesar's presence was a comfort, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Cesar T. Moniz, we celebrate a life beautifully lived-a life that will continue to inspire and influence generations to come. His legacy of love, friendship, and faith will be cherished forever. Cesar's journey on earth has ended, but his story will be told for years to come, as an example of a life well-lived, filled with purpose and grace. Rest in peace, dear Cesar, until we meet again.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, October 11,2025 at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse Street, Providence.
