Date of Death: December 30, 2023
Date of Birth: September 10, 1979
Chad Chandler, 44 of Greene, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 30 after a long battle with drug addiction. Chad was born September 10, 1979 in Lewiston, Maine to Diane (Gosselin) Thomas and Robert Merrill Jr.
He worked in construction and masonry throughout most of his adult life and enjoyed fishing, spending time with friends and family, and watching his beloved Yankees, Bruins, and Celtics play. His family wishes to speak candidly about the circumstances surrounding his death and his struggle with his addiction in hopes that even one family can be spared this heartache.
When Chad was sober he was the kindest and most helpful person. He would literally give someone the shirt off his back. He was hardworking and loyal to all those he loved. He had the most infectious smile that would light up a room. Unfortunately, Chad was never able to overcome his demons and succumbed to his addiction. If anything can be taken from this tragedy, it is the hope that sharing the truth and consequences about the ongoing drug epidemic can save even one life.
He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Willie and Madeline Gosselin, his paternal grandparents Doris and Robert Merrill Sr.; and his Uncles Mike and Randy Gosselin.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather Diane and Wayne Thomas of Greene, his father Robert Merrill Jr and his partner Pam Davis of Old Orchard Beach, his brother Scott Gosselin and his wife Renee of Leeds, his sister Breann Crocker and her husband Ryan of Lewiston, his three daughters Tamyka, Olivia, and Bella and son Chad Jr. He is also survived by his sister Desiree Macleod and her partner Pete of New Hampshire, his sister Brenda May and husband Ron of Canada, and his brothers Shawn and Carlton Gallant of Lewiston, as well as many extended family and friends.
May he now rest and be at peace. The service will be held at Funeral Alternatives in Lewiston on Friday January 12 from 5-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in Chad's memory to the Maine Behavioral Health Foundation to support others who are currently struggling with addiction. Donations can be made online or sent to MBHF 295 Water Street, Suite 307, Augusta, ME 04330
