I was born on the 14th of January 1952, in Ogden Utah. I was the 3rd child born to Gerald Nielsen and Eva Clarke. I grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1970, "Go Tigers"! Right after graduating, I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to follow my passions and dreams, as I was drafted to play first base for the Boston Red Sox. After playing for two seasons, I returned back to Ogden and received my degree from Weber State, and started my career as a Respiratory Therapist. For 41 years I was employed at St. Benedict's Hospital/Ogden Regional Medical Center working in Respiratory Therapy and in the Cardiac Cath Lab as a Cardiovascular Technician. In that span of time, I met and married the love of my life, the best ICU nurse out there, Vicky Ann Moyes. We were married in 1974. We had 3 children, Ryan, Bridgette and Travis, and lived in Eden for over 20 years. We enjoyed the farm life and all great things country living had to offer. I was a member of the Weber County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and participated in many of the rodeos, parades, and assisted with the horseback Search and Rescue. I enjoyed classic cars, and reliving my youth with my 1956 Chevy Bel Air and 1967 Chevy Malibu SS, "boy doesn't that bring back memories". I continued my love for sports by coaching and assisting with Bridgette and Travis's sports teams over the years, and her 4-H equine programs. After retiring, I began volunteering at Tenley's elementary school, Green Acres. I loved spending time with the students and helping them learn to read so much that I continued for 6 years. I should have gone into education because I loved spending time with the kids and watching them learn and grow. They always had big smiles and hugs when "Mr. Chad" came to spend time with them. Much of my time was spent on the golf course with great friends, great stories and creating great memories.
I am survived by my loving wife of over 50 years, Vicky, my daughter Bridgette (Jared) Stanworth of North Ogden, son Travis Nielsen of Castle Dale, our grandchildren Tenley, Abigale (Isaac), Korzen (Kylee), Jacob, Liberty, Grayson, Grady, Damian (Shaylee), Kelcie (Kytan) and Jaden, sister Karma Henry. I am preceded in death by our son Ryan Gerald Nielsen, my parents Gerald and Eva, and brother Clark.
In lieu of flowers please contribute to the building fund at Washington Heights Church in Ogden.
See you on the other side (I hope)
Chad's family would like to express our biggest and most sincere feelings of appreciation to all of the friends, family, co-workers and neighbors that reached out to us in this difficult time. We don't think Chad realized how many lives he touched and influenced in so many ways over the years. Your visits, texts and phone calls really made an impact on how he was feeling. He definitely left a lasting impression on all that knew him. This ole cowboy put up a tough fight, and stood strong in his battle against this aggressive cancer, and he never complained. He was so stoic, strong, and gave it his all. Everyone we encountered at Huntsman Cancer Institute was so professional, kind, empathetic and helpful while guiding us through this journey. CNS nurses were our supportive angels navigating us through his last days while on hospice at home. Chad passed away on December 17th, with his family by his side, feeling their love and sharing memories we created over a lifetime together. Poppa will forever be in our hearts.
Friends and family are invited to Chad's Celebration of Life on Friday January 3rd at the Grandview Event Center. 339 East 2250 S St #103 in downtown Ogden, service to start at 6:00 PM
