Chad Jonathan Payne, a talented carpenter and devoted family man, was born on March 27, 1989, in Asheville, North Carolina. He passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 23, 2026, in his hometown, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and love.

Chad made his mark not only as a hardworking individual who excelled in various fields but particularly as an exceptionally gifted carpenter. He possessed a rare ability to tackle any project that came his way, demonstrating an unwavering determination to solve problems and overcome challenges. His hands crafted not just structures, but also memories that will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Beyond his professional achievements, Chad was known for his kind-hearted nature and sense of humor. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, embodying the spirit of friendliness and laughter. A lover of fishing, he found joy in the tranquility of nature, often sharing these peaceful moments with his family and friends.

Chad is survived by his beloved wife, Joelene L. Payne, whom he married on July 18, 2021. He was a proud and loving father to his daughter, Star Payne who brought him immense joy, and a caring father figure to: Serenity, Vannessa, Abraham, and Trevor that he loved as his own.

In addition, he is survived by his parents, John H. Payne and Sherra McCurry Payne, who cherished him deeply. He was a loving brother to Steven Benjamin Payne and his wife Maria, and Stephanie Ann Payne. His siblings shared a unique and special bond with him. Chad will be remembered by his nieces and nephews: Destiny, Isaiah, Bradley, Cherish, Alyliah, Steven Jr., Serenity, Larry, and Hope.

Chad's maternal grandmother, Barbara Reagan "Nana", will forever hold his memory dear. She lovingly refered to him as "Her little Chadwick". Also left to remember Chad are his uncle, Bryan and Melissa; and cousins, Levi, Anna, and Josh; as will many extended family members who were touched by his kindness and spirit.

Chad was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Michael McCurry, and paternal grandparents, Huston C. Payne and Edith Miller Payne. Their legacy continues through the love and memories shared by Chad's family and friends.

A funeral service to celebrate Chad's life will be held at 3 PM Monday, February 23, 2026, in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home and Cremation Center. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
