It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chad Eric Smith, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, who left us on September 22, 2024, at the age of 50. A lifelong resident of Cochran, Georgia, Chad was known for his warmth, creativity, and dedication to helping others.
Chad graduated from Bleckley County High School in 1992, where he first discovered his passion for the arts and communication. He further pursued his education at Middle Georgia College before transferring to Valdosta State University, where he earned his master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology. His commitment to this field allowed him to make a meaningful impact on the lives of many.
During his college years, Chad was an active participant in theater, showcasing his talents both on and off the stage. His love for the arts continued throughout his life, as he contributed to local theater productions, captivating audiences with his performances and behind-the-scenes support.
After working for the Houston County School System as a Speech Pathologist, Chad found his true calling was working with elderly and stroke patients, working most recently with Amedysis Home Healthcare of Macon. His spirit was defined by his kindness, compassion, and genuine care for those he worked with. He had an innate ability to connect with others, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Chad's major hobby was creating with his family. He was always engaged in a project or activity with his wife and daughters. His drive was to teach them to have a need to learn and discover. These activities brought him true happiness. His laughter, love for storytelling, and quest to learn and share new things will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Chad is preceded in death by his grandparents, WB and Mary English, and Guyton and Gladys Smith. He is survived by his wife, Shelli Beacham Smith, and their two daughters, Lilith Michael (Lily), and Alexandra Gray (Ally), all of Cochran. He also leaves behind numerous friends and colleagues who cherished his presence and will forever remember his vibrant spirit.
A Memorial Service and celebration of Chad's life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home in Cochran. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a Memorial Fund for Chad's Daughters at GoFundMe in Chad's memory.
