Snow falls and a pair of whitetail deer move through the beech forest. All his life, Chad loved being outside and exploring the woods of Cherry Valley.
From a young age, he worked on his grandparent's, Robert and JoAnn Loucks, vegetable farm, riding his four-wheeler down from his house to plant and pick vegetables with his cousins and sister.
A member of the Cherry Valley-Springfield Class of 2012, Chad was a caring person and won awards for his Citizenship and Sportsmanship while being on multiple Tri-Valley League Championship teams with his close friends, Ryan Brazie and Brett Adams.
Upon graduation, Chad enrolled at SUNY Cobleskill, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Afterwards, he held positions with the Leatherstocking Golf Course and Clark Foundation at Mohican Farms with a warm smile and developed many strong interpersonal relationships.
Much of Chad's life was spent outdoors, in the woods and on the water with close friends. An avid hunter and fisherman, he learned the lessons of the forest and waterways from his grandfather, great uncles and uncle, spending time in the Cherry Valley Hills and Adirondack North Country with various hunting groups. The Camp Wesley Crew, The Wilder Gang and The Loucks Gang, coyote hunting crews, and his rabbit hunting buddies were all very important parts of his life.
Chad was a kind spirit with a big heart who gave the best hugs and loved a good game of cards. A devoted son, cherished grandson, beloved nephew, loving Uncle, special cousin and a friend to many, he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his beloved parents Kim and Lyle Thompson, his much loved sister Tiffany Thompson (Fred) and his precious niece Greta, his great uncles Steve and Stan Loucks, his aunt and uncle Amy and Tom Garretson, Robert and Colleen Loucks, and cousins Celia Rathbun (Ryan, Jossy, and godson Luke), Bethany Adams (Adrian), Stephanie Lowery (RJ and Reagan), Mallory Upshur (Jonathan), Lauren Loucks, Dana Jalbert, Dalton Morris and Jack, Jeff, Jamie, Jerry and Jimmy Thompson. Special lifetime friends include the Gage, Hurley and Freer families.
He is predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Chad will be remembered for his love of his family, caring friendships and being an avid outdoorsman. Heart shaped deer tracks in the snow, an iridescent turkey feather, a hawk circling overhead, his memory and his presence will never be far away.
A celebration of life will be held this Saturday, December 13th at 11am at the Grace Episcopal Church, 32 Montgomery Street, Cherry Valley.
