Orie Baker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ottman Funeral Home - Cherry Valley on Feb. 9, 2026.
Orie Samuel Baker, 73, of Cooperstown, New York, passed away on February 5, 2026. Born on May 18, 1952, in Middletown, New York, Orie lived a life rooted in hard work, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of home.

For over two decades, Orie worked as a farmer-a profession that reflected his strong work ethic and connection to the land. He later spent 29 years driving a milk truck, a role that allowed him to serve his community with dedication and reliability. Whether in the fields or behind the wheel, Orie took pride in every task he undertook.

Above all else, Orie was a loving and devoted husband of 53 years to his wife Peggy Baker. Together they built a life centered around family. He was a proud father to Todd (and his wife Jeannie), Stacy, and Curt (and his wife Becky). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren-Bethany (and her husband Delaven), Julia, Franchesca, Ethan, Nathan, Blake, and Jonathan-and great-grandchildren Zayla and Zander.

Orie also shared close bonds with his siblings: John (and his wife Jamie), Kathryn, Allen (and his wife June), Ann Carol (and her late husband John), and Gus Jr. (and his wife Tracy). He was predeceased by his parents, Gus Baker and Anna Baker.

A man who found joy in the everyday moments of life, Orie treasured time spent at home on his small piece of land-a place he never stopped improving or changing. After a long day's work, he enjoyed relaxing in his garage with a cold beer alongside his neighbor from the hill and good friend, the late Bob Tracy. His beloved dogs Philly and Luna were constant companions who brought him comfort and joy.

Orie's unwavering love for his family was evident in everything he did. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Orie's family will receive family and friends for a time of visitation on Sunday, February 15th from 1pm-4pm at the Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church Street, Cherry Valley, NY 13320.

May Orie's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
