Chad Eric Weiland, 53, died after a sudden heart attack at the family hunting lodge in Monroe County on November 21, 2025.
He was born May 31, 1972 in Galion to the late Larry J. Weiland and Sandy K. (See) Albright. He grew up in the Galion and New Winchester areas helping on his uncles’ farms and golf course. He loved playing sports, especially basketball and soccer where his big frame made him an excellent goalie. After graduating from Wayside Christian School in 1990, he married his sweetheart, Nikki Payne on November 16, 1991 and they welcomed twin sons in 1992.
Chad will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, patriotism, and ability to fix anything. He was a natural teacher who helped others learn trade work and loved to sit around and shoot the breeze with great friends. There was little he couldn’t do, so when he created business cards as a handyman, they simply said, “I Can Do That.” When he wasn’t fixing things, he loved to hunt or prepare for his next hunt. The family’s acreage in Monroe County was the ideal place to pursue his passion with family and friends. His grandchildren brought him so much joy and laughter. He certainly loved life, getting after the tasks each day held while whistling Christmas songs, and all the people he got to meet along the way in those pursuits. Chad followed the Steelers and Buckeyes.
Chad is survived by his wife, Nikki Weiland; son, Taylor Weiland; grandchildren, Jacob, Brody, and Archer; daughter-in-law, Courtney McGinnis; siblings, Terrie (Mark) Loretta and Chris (Kelly) Weiland; nephew and nieces, Dakota (Taylor) Loretta, Shelby Payne, and Alexis Payne; stepmother, Jane Weiland; and mother-in-law, Sharon Payne (Bob Welsh).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Mason Eric Weiland; father-in-law, Jim Payne; and sister-in-law, Carri Lynn Payne.
All services will be held on Tuesday, November 25 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where everyone is encouraged to dress casually. Family will receive friends from 1-2:55 pm and the funeral will begin at 3:00 with dear friend, Bob Welsh officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made payable to Humane Society Serving Crawford County and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Chad’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
