Chander Sachdeva Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Sep. 13, 2024.
Chander Kanta Sachdeva | December 26, 1952 – September 11, 2024
Chander "Chand" Sachdeva, 71, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at Harford Hospital at 11:38AM on September 11, 2024, after a long 5.5 year hard-fought battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Chander was born on December 26, 1952 in Delhi, India. She was the beloved daughter of late Mool Chand Verma and late Dropadi Devi, and was the 2nd eldest of 6 children. After completing high school in Delhi, she joined the Indian Army at the age of 17. She completed her BSN in military nursing school in Mumbai and worked as a nurse for the Indian Army for 10 years with posts in Mumbai, Pune and Goa.
At the age of 30, Chander left the Indian Army at the rank of Captain and migrated with her siblings to USA (Long Island, New York). After moving to New York, Chander obtained her license to practice as a Registered Nurse. She worked at various hospitals in Long Island for 2 years as an ICU, medical/surgical, labor and delivery/ postpartum registered nurse. She married at the age of 32, and gave birth to her first born, Amit, in Toronto the next year, and her second born, Anjuli, in Long Island, the following year.
In subsequent years, Chander joined the VA Medical Center in Connecticut as a Psychiatric Registered Nurse where she worked selflessly for over 30 years, before retiring in April 2019. Chander also attained a Master's Degree in Holistic Medicine and she offered free reiki and energy healing services to all members of the community. She worked hard for over 30 years in this country, and her plan was to spend her retired life traveling the world with her husband and giving back to the less fortunate. Sadly, she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in May 2019, just 1 month after retiring.
For the last 5 years, Chander fought hard in her battle against cancer, defying many odds and going in and out of remission. Unfortunately, the cancer spread from her blood to her bones, and her body was not able to fight any further.
Chander was a woman with immense strength and compassion for helping people, especially her veteran patients and children. She was known for her kindness, patience, wisdom, and the love, strength and joy she brought into the lives of others. Her passions included singing, dancing, music, writing poetry, traveling, giving back to the community, and spending quality time with her family and fur-babies.
Chander is survived by her devoted husband, Krishan, her two children, Amit and Anjuli, her fur-babies, Oliver (Ahlu) and Bodhi, her 5 siblings, and by her wonderful in-laws, including many nieces and nephews, all whom adore her beyond words.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Carmon Funeral Home (807 Bloomfield Ave, Windsor, CT). The viewing will begin at 10AM, followed by cremation at 12:30PM. Langar Sewa (lunch) will follow the services at Gurudwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib at 1:30PM (1530 Palisado Ave, Windsor, CT).

I was so sorry to hear that Dear Chander died. I worked with her for many years at the Newington VA. She was a Beautiful person inside and out. Her Nursing skills were exemplary. She was loved by both her Patients and Staff. May She Rest In Peace.
