Charlane "Dedie" Schmidt

Dedie Thomas Schmidt, 85, of Beloit, WI, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026 in her home.

Charlane Marty Thomas Schmidt, always known as "Dedie" was born in Mt. Horeb, WI, on August 7, 1940. She was raised along with her sister and brother, by her mother Mrs. Ethel Thomas. Dedie graduated from Mt. Horeb High School in 1958. She married George Douglas Schmidt at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Mt. Horeb on July 23, 1960. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Sarah Lynn (Tim) Stelter and Carla Joan (Brian) Kuhn. Dedie felt her greatest achievement was becoming a registered nurse in 1978, twenty years after high school graduation, fulfilling a childhood dream. She worked as an allergy nurse for eight years, a diabetes educator for eleven years and finished out her nursing career as a Triage nurse.

Survivors include her two daughters; sons-in-law; four grandchildren, Jesper, Jens, Frank, and Jack Stelter; great-grandson, Walter Stelter; nephews, Scott Thomas and Brett (Angela) Thomas of VA; and cousin, Susan (Gary) Feest of Madison, WI.

Dedie was predeceased by her parents; husband, George; brother, Dr. William O. Thomas of Roanoke, VA; sister, Jacqueline (Phil) Harper of Madison, WI; aunt, Hazel Johnson and uncle, Lyle Johnson of Mt. Horeb, WI.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Dedie will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026 in St. Thomas Catholic Church, 824 E. Grand Ave., Beloit, WI, with Fr. Jim Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation of remembrance will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 in Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI.

Memorials in her name may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church of Beloit or Beloit Regional Hospice.
