Charlene Marie Basso-Wright was born on August 21, 1949, in Middletown, Connecticut, to Dorothy and Henry Basso. She passed peacefully in January 2026, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, devotion, and quiet brilliance that touched everyone who knew her.
Charlene graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown in 1967 and went on to study at the Creative School of Hairdressing in Hartford, Connecticut. With determination and talent, she opened her own salon, Mane Production, in Portland, Connecticut-a business she lovingly built and successfully ran for over 30 years. During this time, she formed a lifelong friendship and professional partnership with Patricia Paskov, a bond that meant the world to her.
After an extended courtship and a love story that could warm any heart, Charlene married the love of her life, Bob Wright of Rocky Hill, Connecticut. Together they built a beautiful life and welcomed two daughters, Heather Elizabeth and Erica Lynn. Her role as a mother is where Charlene's love shone the brightest.
Charlene was an avid knitter and affectionately known by friends and family as the "Yoda of Knitting." Her hands created countless sweaters, shawls, and wraps, each one infused with care and intention. She often said that knitting socks for the people she loved brought her the greatest happiness.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main Street, Westerly, RI 02891. The service will start at noon.
Burial will be private.
