Charlene Berg, 84, of East Grand Forks, MN died Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
Charlene Berg was born August 3, 1940 in Bottineau, ND the daughter of Arnold and Rose (Goodman) Haugerud. Charlene was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She grew up in Bottineau, graduating from Bottineau High School in 1958. She graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN in 1962 with a degree in Elementary Music.
Charlene married Gary Berg on August 19, 1962 in Bottineau, ND. She taught elementary music in Hawley, MN for one year. They then moved to Pullman, WA. One year later, they moved to New England, ND, where she was the church organist and taught special education. The Bergs moved to Carrington, ND for three years where she taught piano lessons and was the church organist. In 1969, they moved to East Grand Forks, MN, where she taught private piano lessons to hundreds of students and accompanied many soloists and groups in the area until retiring in 2007. She was church organist for Our Savior's Lutheran Church for 50 years, retiring in 2020.
She is survived by her husband Gary of East Grand Forks, MN, two daughters, Staci (Jeff) Knotek of Prescott, AZ, Jodi (Steve) Hitchcock of San Diego, CA, three grandchildren, Jenna, Dylan and Derek, and one sister Corliss (Terry) Bunas of Bellevue, NE. She is preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother Arlan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the General Fund of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Memorial Service: 11:00AM Monday, July 21st at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1515 5th Ave NW, East Grand Forks, MN 56721.
Visitation: One hour before services at the church.
