Charlene Michelle (Kerns) Goodwill born to Floyd Mitchell Kerns and Beverly Ann (Dykes) Kerns in Newport, Rhode Island on July 7, 1959 and passed away on October 21, 2021 in West Florida Hospital at the age of 62, well away from her home in Milton, Florida where she had spent a majority of her life.
Due to her father's career in the military, Charlene spent many of her formative years moving from state to state going on adventures she would later recount to her friends and family such as having broke and rode cattle because her father wouldn't get them a horse, and how mad he got because riding them toughened the beef. Him eventually giving in and buying a horse would start a lifelong hobby for her, that throughout her teenage and adult years would see her raising, breaking, and training horses. As well as see her competing in horse shows and participating in parades through town for which her and her black and white painted show horse, Bocephus, would be well known. Throughout the years she would then attend George Stone Police Academy and become a correctional officer, a career which would lead her to becoming a mental health technician at a Girl's Juvenile Detention Center where she would help troubled girls learn to fit back into society. She also developed a love of fishing, feeding wild raccoons, taking care of her many animals, reading her true crime books and completing her find-a-words.
She was a loving mother to her two sons and to those she claimed she stole as well as a dutiful daughter. She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, and her two Brothers: William and Robert Kerns. She is likewise survived by her two sons Christopher Gabbrielli and Justin Hall, her niece Annette Kerns, her Aunt Carol Dykes, several nephews scattered across Florida, and several cousins in the four corners region.
The family had a small gathering at Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton on Saturday October 30th, 2021. The family will honor her wish to be cremated and her ashes taken to be scattered where the Wild Ponies Roam as per her last requests.
