Charlene Joiner, 97, of Hamlin, passed away November 10, 2024, in Abilene. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home in Hamlin. Visitation will be at 10 am Thursday until time of service. Burial will be in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery, directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home.
Born February 14, 1927, in Hamlin, Charlene was the daughter of the late Charles Willis and Fannie Mae (Allen) Durham. She graduated from Hamlin High School and attended Draughon's Business School. Charlene married her high school sweetheart, L.A. (Buck) Joiner November 22, 1946, in Hamlin. She worked in Tupperware for 20 years as a bookkeeper. Charlene was very active in her communities Hamlin and Odessa, serving as a Pink Lady, working in the Care Station, Literary Club, and taught Sunday School. On occasion you would find her enjoying line dancing with the Buffalo Gals in Hamlin.
She is preceded in death by her husband, two sisters Louise Wells and Barbara Holloway, and one brother John Thomas Durham.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Joiner (Shelia), and Jerry Joiner; one daughter Susan Payton (Woody); sisters Janet Armstrong and Jerita Rogers; three grandchildren, Nick Joiner (Brandy), Nathan Payton (Jaclynn) and Jacob Payton (Kelsey); seven great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
