David Ferrell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCoy Funeral Home - Sweetwater on Mar. 18, 2026.
David Ferrell, 66, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on March 18, 2026. He was born on July 27,

1959, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Ruby Nolen and was lovingly raised by his parents Billie and Royce Ferrell.

David spent most of his life in West Texas but made impressions with friends in Oklahoma and Kansas where he spent some of his life. He built a reputation as a hardworking man who wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty. He worked many years in heavy equipment, construction, land fill operations, including time with the cities of Rotan and Hamlin. He took pride in his work and the life he built through it.

He was known for being a true "go-getter," someone who was down-to-earth, strong-willed, and always willing to help anyone. David had a stubborn streak and a personality that could fill a room. He loved music, dancing, and spending time with family and friends, especially making his famous BBQ sauce for friends and family. In his younger years, he enjoyed working on vehicles and was always fixing something or helping someone else do the same.

David is survived by his children, Heather Randolph Cannon, Amanda Ray, and Amber Ferrell; his grandchildren, Alyssa Evans, Saryah Reyes, Austin Ferrell, Alex Ray, Griffin Cannon; his great grandchildren Kyston Morgan, Krew Morgan and Zayden Carreon. His sisters Paula and Denise Jamieson; and loving extended family members and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Nolen, Billie Ferrell, and Royce Ferrell; his brother Eddie Lobb; his sister Rhita Howard his grandchild, Taylor Oakland;Great Grand daughter Nevaeh Carreon;and his Aunt Vesta Toney who he adored greatly.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM, also at McCoy Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.
