Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 11, 2025 in the Mitchell family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery with Dr. Joe Bunce officiating. Pallbearers will include Richard Terrell, Steve Gallegos, Marcus Giannini, Glen Crenshaw, John Duke, and Lyndal Bonds.
Charlene Mitchell, 90 a lifetime resident of Fort Sumner, passed away on October 9, 2025 at BeeHive Homes in Clovis surrounded by her family. Charlene was born November 17, 1934 to the home of James and Lola Evelyn (White) Fambro. She grew up in Fort Sumner where she attended and graduated from Fort Sumner High School in 1954. Shortly after graduation, Charlene married Joe Charles Mitchell on July 13, 1954 in Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
Charlene was employed as a Administration Clerk for Farmer's Electric CoOperative in Fort Sumner for over 53 years. She retired in 2010. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner. Charlene along with Glenn Holland operated the local bowling alley for many years. Charlene enjoyed bowling and was active in leagues 5 days a week for many years. Charlene loved Fort Sumner and was always available to serve her community. She was a forever fan of the Fort Sumner Foxes and Vixens. Her favorite past time was attending school sporting events especially when her grandkids were participating.
Charlene was baptized in her youth. She loved the Lord her whole life. Charlene along with Delores Moore and Willie Fish sang for many funerals over the years.
Charlene is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe Mitchell in 2011, two brothers Bill Fambro and Bob Fambro and one sister Evelyn Tinkle.
She is survived by one daughter Patsy Jo Morris and her husband Gordon of Melrose, NM, grandchildren Scott Morris and his wife Juli and their family Mikayla, Jaylee, and Gracin, Kim Littlejohn and her husband Blake and their family Katelynn, Collin, Braxton, Bryan, Machensie, Megan. A niece Charlene raised, Debbie Tyler and her husband Robert and their family, Hope, James, Glenna (Josh), and three nephews Andy, Jim, and Bill.
