It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sosteno "Sonny" Samora, who departed this life peacefully on August 4, 2025, at the age of 71. Memorial mass will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 10:45 am, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Franklin Iwuagwa officiating, 921 N. Merriwether-burial to follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, 1601 E. Llano Estacado. A celebration of Sonny's life will be followed by lunch at Sacred Heart Hall, 921 N. Merriwether.
Sonny was born on September 9, 1953, to Nicolas and Leonorcita Samora in Fort Sumner, NM, a place that shaped his resilient spirit. After graduating from Fort Sumner High School in 1973, he proudly served in the United States Army, showing dedication and courage. In 1977, he married Leona Samora. Sonny found joy in anything outdoors, planting trees, and playing many sports throughout the years. During his school years, he actively participated in basketball, and in his mid-30s, he discovered a passion for racquetball, winning several tournaments. His journey reflects a vibrant, enduring spirit and a commitment to staying active and inspired throughout his life. Sonny was a hard-working man and a talented master carpenter-a world traveler. Sonny's energetic and curious spirit allowed him to fix and create anything; he had magical hands and skill. He took immense pride in his craft and was a mentor to many. His generosity knew no bounds-always ready to lend a helping hand and uplift others, inspiring those around him with his kindness. He would give you the shirt off his back, leaving a lasting legacy of benevolence. In Sonny's honor, the family asks that you perform an act of kindness in his memory.
Survivors include his children; Tony Samora of
Clovis, NM, Lisa Samora of Lubbock, TX, and Chad Samora of
Clovis, NM, siblings; Manuel Samora (Cecelia), Corine Marez (Guillermo) both of Albuquerque, NM, and Raymond Samora of Roswell, NM, five grandchildren; Daisa Hastings (Tanner Picard), Damien Samora (Celicia), Jaden Samora, Dylan Samora, and Danae Samora, four great grandkids; Sunny J., Lindo, Damien Jr., and Mazia.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Nicolas and Leonorcita Samora, five sisters, Leticia Webb, Aurora Levario, Cecilia Servatius, Geraldine Conklin, and Eloysa Samora, two brothers, Lucio Samora and Nick Samora.
Pallbearers are Damien Samora, Jayden Samora, Dylan Samora, and Danae Samora. Honorary pallbearers included Lorenzo Segura and Daisa Hastings, reflecting the enduring bonds of family and legacy.
