Ninnie “Deedie” Thomas, a beloved matriarch and a devoted soul, departed this earth on February 11, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 86. Born on November 24, 1939, in Clovis, New Mexico, Deedie embodied an unwavering spirit, one that was nurtured on the ranches of Wyoming and flourished in the heart of her family life.

Throughout her years, she found joy and purpose in the embrace of ranch life, which she and her husband cherished together when they bought a ranch in Channing. For her, the essence of hard work and connection to the land was inseparable from her identity. Her steadfast dedication not only to her family but also to the craft of ranching became a significant part of her legacy.

Deedie is fondly remembered by her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for her vibrant personality. She lived by the mantra that life should be experienced fully: "always try something once." Her children would recall her wisdom with affectionate clarity; whenever she faltered, she was quick to remind them, "Don’t do what I do, do it better." This timeless adage not only inspired them to seek their own paths but also instilled humility and resilience within each one.

Her passion resonated in her artistry and culinary prowess, where the kitchen became her sanctuary. Deedie was a phenomenal cook, famed for her unmatched calf fries and an array of delightful dishes that turned every meal into a cherished gathering. Such treasures were symbols of her journey, as her husband, the late Frank B. Thomas Jr., devoted himself to providing her with the world she desired.

Her family, who remain to honor her legacy, includes her son, Frank Thomas (Julie) of Amarillo, Texas; her grandsons, Benjamin Thomas (Erica) of Westminster, Colorado, and Andrew Thomas of Amarillo, Texas; her granddaughter, Amber Fuller (Shane) of Big Lake, Texas; and her great-grandchildren, Rainier, Jentri, Taylee, Hunter, Tucker, and Ellie, all of whom carry forward her spirit in their lives.

As we gather to commemorate Deedie’s life, we will celebrate the remarkable woman who shaped countless lives with her love, wisdom, and tenacity. A graveside service officiated by Brother David Artz of Amarillo, Texas, will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart, Texas, on February 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM, where we will lay her to rest amidst the landscape she cherished. Services are entrusted to Dalhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Deedie Thomas will forever be remembered as a devoted mother, a talented artist, a culinary queen, and a loving grandmother, a guiding star who enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
