Charles H Babb
Father, Grandfather, Friend, and Mentor
October 10, 1943 – December 29, 2023
Charles H Babb (80) of Altamonte Springs, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 29, 2023.
Born October 10th, 1943 to Herbert and Mildred Babb, Charlie spent his young life learning how to live a fully seasoned life in a hard-working, fiercely loyal, early-Florida citrus pioneer household in Umatilla.
After completing an Agriculture degree from the University of Florida, he then served in the United States Navy as a Dispersing Officer on the USS Canberra during the Vietnam War. He was a proud Veteran and his love for country was evident in both words and deeds.
Charlie was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart, a mentoring spirit, and wonderful sense of family leadership. His children will tell you that he was always present when needed and taught many valuable lessons. He was an ingenious problem solver and was filled with knowledge gained through his life experiences: rattlesnake milker, crocodile charmer, military officer, boat-builder, two-stepper, printer, entrepreneur, innovator, contractor- he could fix or build anything. He loved being outdoors and, on the water, growing plants, fruits, vegetables, fishing, scuba diving, camping, and taking pictures of nature (sunrises were his favorite).
His last words were "I'll see you in the morning," which provides a glimpse into his favorite time of day. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with friends and family. He is survived by his ex-wife Roseanne Babb, his brothers Herbie and Richard Babb, his three children Jason Babb, Wendy Babb Boyer, and Derrick Babb, son-in-law Bryce Boyer and two grandchildren Macey and Marley Boyer (his M&M's). When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before and will follow him. "Even death is not to be feared by one who has lived wisely."
Charlie's wishes were that no "stuffy" services should be planned. His ashes will be scattered in various favorite bodies of water by his children. Godspeed Charlie, you will be missed dearly.
Fair winds and following seas. Rest in peace, Shipmate Charles. We have the watch.
