Charles Anthony Bacigalupo
June 4, 1934 - June 19, 2025
Charles Anthony Bacigalupo, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected figure in the financial industry, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, in
Naples, Florida, at the age of 91.
Born on June 4, 1934, Charles lived a life marked by integrity, character, and deep connection to both family and profession. Known as Batch to most, and Big Batch or Batchy to his grandchildren, Charles graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1956. He played baseball for the Saints, and joined the ROTC program, ultimately being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve. Batch spent two years in Germany post-graduation, serving in the military police and rising to a First Lieutenant.
In 1959, he married the love of his life, Eileen Summers Bacigalupo, with whom he shared more than 65 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children: Tracy Bacigalupo (Jake Baker), Tom Bacigalupo (Debbie), and Scott Bacigalupo (Tara). Batch and Eileen were wonderful parents - creating a loving family and spending countless hours with their children.
Charles was one of the original founders of Mason & Co., moving to Newport News, Virginia in 1962. Batch contributed meaningfully to the firm's growth and success which led to its merger with Legg & Co. in 1970, and ultimately becoming the global asset management firm Legg Mason, Inc. During his 42-year tenure, building and leading the regulatory, legal, and compliance departments, he served on the Legg Mason Executive Management Committee and the Board of Directors for several decades. Known for his thoughtful counsel and principled approach, Charles was widely admired in the business world.
Charles and Eileen made their home in Towson, Maryland for over fifty years, building a rich life full of family, friendship, and community. Many of Batch's favorite summer vacations were spent on 82nd Street in Virginia Beach, Virginia. These summers with many dear friends led to the retelling of countless stories for years to come. Charles and Eileen later established homes in Bethany Beach, Delaware and
Naples, Florida to enjoy their retirement with friends and family.
Charles was a proud and loving grandfather to six grandchildren: Thomas Jr. (Tommy), Matthew, Margaret (Maggie), Charlotte (Charley), Chase, and Harrison (Harry). He took immense joy in being present for their lives - always with them for holidays and special occasions, taking considerable pride in attending their sporting events, and always making his presence known on the sidelines.
In his free time, Charles enjoyed playing golf, a game that matched his connection to friends and love of outdoors, watching Baltimore Orioles games, and never missing an opportunity to spend time with his family. In addition, he was a devout Catholic who would be seen at church every week, if not daily. Batch always was generous with his time and support of Catholic charities.
He will be remembered for his strength of character, deep devotion to his family, and the thoughtful way he lived his life. Charles' legacy will continue to live on through the generations of family he cherished so deeply.
Charles is survived by his sister, Wendy Panzarino (Vince).
A private family service will be held to honor his memory.
