Charles Baker, a retired United States Army veteran who dedicated over 26 years of his life in service to his country, peacefully passed away on April 30, 2024, at the U.K. Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born on December 23, 1946, in Hyden, Kentucky, to proud parents Sherman and Betty Sizemore Baker.

Charles was a man of honor and integrity, known for his unwavering loyalty and commitment. Graduating from Leslie County High School, he went on to serve his nation with pride and distinction in the United States Army. His military career was not just a job but a true calling that he carried out diligently.

In addition to his military service, Charles was deeply involved in various community activities. He was a proud member of the Leslie County DAV (Disabled American Veterans), the Masons, and a devoted NRA member. These affiliations were a testament to his sense of duty and camaraderie beyond his military obligations.

A die-hard Republican, Charles was incredibly patriotic and took great pride in discussing politics and expressing his views. He found joy in watching Fox News and engaging in spirited debates about the state of the nation. His passionate beliefs were a reflection of his deep love for his country and its values.

Outside of his professional and political endeavors, Charles had a softer side as well. He enjoyed bass fishing with his best friend and brother-in-law Michael Begley, loved hunting, and was part of the Baptist Faith community. These hobbies gave him moments of peace and connection with nature that balanced out his more intense pursuits.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife Debbie Begley Baker; one son Charles Trevor Baker; one daughter, Laranda Baker Ginn, one stepson Heath Hollen and wife Jamie; one stepdaughter Jovina Slone, three treasured grandchildren, five treasured great grandchildren, nine cherished step-grandchildren, one sister, Mary Rose Bowling & a host of other relatives and friends. Charles loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was very much loved and will be heart- breakingly missed by them all.along with numerous extended family members and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his loving parents Sherman and Betty Sizemore Baker; one  brother Cecil Baker and one sister Betty Washington. 

His legacy as a dedicated soldier, passionate patriot, loyal family man, avid outdoorsman, and community advocate will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege to know him. Charles's memory will live on through the stories shared by those whose lives he touched along his remarkable journey through life.

May he rest in peace knowing that he served his country with honor, loved deeply, cherished friendships fiercely, and lived life to the fullest extent possible within humble means.
     A memorial service will scheduled for a later date.
