Charles M. Barkey, 96 of Rootstown, OH, husband of Marilyn née Hogarth, father of Michael (Cindy), Steven (Cheryl), Jeffrey(Marla) and Elisa Bechtel (William), went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 17, 2025. Charlie was born on January 20, 1929 to Jacob Barkey and Helen Heid in Canton, OH. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jacob (Fritz), in laws, Paul and Grace Hogarth and son, Steven. Charlie is also survived by his sister, Opal Ferris (Joey) and brother, Robert Barkey; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Charlie was retired from the B & O RR after 42 years as locomotive engineer. Charlie served in the USAF during the Korean War, exiting as a Staff Sgt. Charlie was a current member of Community Church of Portage Lakes. He was a former member of the Chapel in Akron for over 50 years. Charlie was a master woodworker, sharing his talent with families and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to The Heaven of Rest, Akron, OH, in honor of Charles M. Barkey.
Family will receive guests on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd, Copley, OH, visitation 2:00-3:00pm. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m.
