Charles Berman

1925 - 2024

Charles Murray Berman, of Derry Township, passed away early Sunday morning, November 3rd. Charles turned 99 on July 4th.

Charles was an alum of William Penn High School and the United States Merchant Marine Academy from Kings Point. Charles was a proud member of the Flying Bridge Annual Giving Society as part of his dedication to the Kings Point Academy. Charles, along with his brother Leonard Berman and mother Edith Cole, owned and operated one of the largest office furniture companies in Pennsylvania, Cole and Company, until it was sold in the late 80's. He then transitioned with his brother Leonard to running DOFO (Direct office Furniture Outlet) and continued to go into the office on Paxton Street well into his 90's. Charles was well known for his office design skills, and he took pride in the many offices that he designed and furnished throughout central Pennsylvania.

In addition to his mother Edith Cole, father Harry Berman (passed when Charles was 5 years old), and step-father A.J. Cole, Charles was predeceased by his first wife, Ann Berman, brother, Leonard Berman, sister-in-law, Phyllis Berman and his son, Harold Berman. He is survived by his wife Brenda Farnsler Berman, daughter, Ann Marie Garwood (Don), and 3 grandchildren: Josh Stark, Noel Stark Jones and Joe Garwood.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at the Bookstaber Chapel of Mount Moriah Cemetery, with Rabbi Marc Kline as officiant. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will immediately follow the funeral at the home of his niece Irene Berman-Levine, 3501 N. 2nd Street, Harrisburg. There will be no formal shiva.
