It is with a profound sense of loss and an enduring appreciation for a life rich in love and service that we announce the passing of Mr. Charles Mercer Blalock, Sr. Charles, a man known for his boundless generosity and exceptional craftsmanship, departed this world on January 21, 2025, leaving a legacy of warmth and community involvement that will be cherished by all who knew him. Born on August 11, 1948, to the late Mercer and Emma Blalock, Charles's journey was one marked by dedication to his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
Charles's early years set the foundation for a life full of love and commitment. His parents instilled in him a strong work ethic and a heart for service, traits that would define him throughout his life. After the passing of his first wife, Cheryl, Charles found love again with Pamela, who became a cherished partner in all his endeavors. Together, they navigated the joys and challenges of life, their bond providing a source of strength and comfort to both. Pamela and Charles enjoyed traveling and exploring the world sharing their time and love together.
A devoted father, Charles took immense pride in his children, Mercer Blalock, Jr. and his wife Stacy, and Paige Gorman and her husband Chris. His role as a grandfather to Anna Grace, Daniel Mercer, Logan, Avery and her husband Brett, Charlie and his wife Mander, Kara and her partner Harrison, and Dylan Kitchens was one he cherished deeply. The arrival of his great-grandchildren, including Nora Barron, brought him immense joy and added a new layer of love to his already full heart.
His brother, Billy Blalock, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a large circle of extended family and friends, will remember Charles for his remarkable ability to connect with others, his storytelling, and his unwavering support. As a man who never met a stranger, his absence will be felt in the countless lives he touched with his kindness and convivial spirit.
Charles's professional life was marked by his entrepreneurial spirit and his passion for woodworking. He was the proud owner of a successful business, where he combined his love for creation with his innate business acumen. His handiwork was not just a profession but also an art, one that he shared generously with those around him.
Beyond his family and professional life, Charles's commitment to his community was evident through his dedicated service as the Chairman of the Board of the Covington Elks Club Lodge #1806. In this capacity, he was not only a leader but also a fervent advocate for those with special needs, serving as the Chairman of the Special Needs Committee. His tireless work to improve the lives of others was further exemplified by the countless evenings he spent working Bingo, bringing joy and a sense of camaraderie to many.
Charles's life was a testament to the power of community, hard work, and compassion. He was a faithful member of Life in the Now Church. His legacy is not just in the structures he built or the business he ran, but in the love he gave freely and the lives he enriched. As we mourn his departure, we also celebrate the extraordinary life of Mr. Charles Mercer Blalock, Sr.-a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
