Charles Lawrence Booker Sr. (AKA "Maddog") departed this life on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at his home. He was born December 24, 1953 to Sarah E. Booker and the late Lucius Booker in Brooklyn, NY. The family moved to Newark, NJ on Belmont Avenue. Charles attended Peshine Avenue School. In 1972 he graduated from Irvington Tech High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corp.
While living at 440 Elizabeth Avenue (Carmel Towers) with his family, he met and married Claudett Jones-1975 (ex-wife). To their union they were blessed with two children, Nahkita R. Booker of PA and Charles L. Booker Jr. of Maryland.
Charles received an Honorable Discharge in 1980 from the U.S. Marine Corps. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service until retirement.
Charles loved skating at Twin City every Friday and Saturday night. He was a diehard Giants fan, win or lose. He also loved dancing and listening to his music. Charles had so much love for his family and friends.
Charles leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter, Nahkita of PA; his son, Charles Jr. of Maryland; his mother, Sarah E. Booker of East Orange; three granddaughters, Jahmone Hill of PA, Alia Desiree Booker and Kamara Amina Booker of Maryland; his sisters, Pamela French-Sadler (William) of Wilmington, DE and Kyanita Booker of East Orange; his companion of many years, Diane Washington of East Orange; one aunt, Patricia Kelly of Summerton, SC; nieces and nephews, Cheronda, Tanya, Brittney, Ronette, Thomas and Jimmy; a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins; along with his great friends, Julius, Rock, Lyles, Ms. Betty, Carol and all of his VA friends.
Charles was preceded in death by: his sister, Theresa; his brother, Ronald; four aunts and four uncles; and his grandparents, Hattie and James Junious.
