Obituary published on Legacy.com by Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC - Sturgeon Bay on Jun. 16, 2025.
Charles "Charlie" Muck Bordeau, 96, of Sturgeon Bay, was called Home to be with the Lord, Saturday morning, June 14, 2025, at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay with his family at his side.
He was born August 6, 1928 in Marquette, MI, the son of Alexander Clifford Bordeau and Dorthea Elizabeth (Muck) Bordeau. Charlie graduated from Baraga High School with the class of 1947.
On June 17, 1950, he married Barbara Jean Emanuelson in Marquette, MI.
Charlie's life's work could be summed up in his saying, "What can't you do!" But those who knew him, knew what a humble person he was. Charlie was initially employed as a produce manager for Red Owl grocery store in Marquette. His hardworking nature was appreciated within the Red Owl stores, and he was eventually transferred to the Red Owl store in
Sturgeon Bay, WI. Charlie worked for Algoma Plywood before going to work as a mechanic with Chuck Wiegand at Wiegand Amoco in Sturgeon Bay. He owned and operated his own service station at 529 N. 8th Avenue (now the site of Bordeau's Farm Market) until 1977.
His wife, Barbara, passed away November 29, 1966.
Charlie was united in marriage to Betty Jean DeRemo on September 6, 1968 at the courthouse in Algoma. They eventually moved to County Road TT in the Town of Sturgeon Bay in 1975, where they operated their farm. Charlie worked in the mechanic shop for Peterson Builders, Incorporated (PBI) until 1990. He and Betty lived on TT until four years ago, but Charlie farmed there until recently.
Charlie was a longtime member of St. Joseph Parish in Sturgeon Bay. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. Alfonse Broens Council 2478 in Sturgeon Bay. Charlie was a strong supporter of the farming and agriculture community in Door County and was active with the Sevastopol FFA Alumni. He was a familiar face at the Sturgeon Bay Farm and Craft Market, often greeting community members and visitors with his produce spread out in front of his red truck. Charlie was also active with Boy Scouts as his sons grew up. He loved all sports and could often be found at the Door County Little League baseball and softball fields, coaching his family and generations of community members. Charlie was an avid hunter and liked hunting all over Door County; and fishing for trout in Cherry Creek in Marquette, earlier in life. He also volunteered with the local Share Program in Door County.
Charlie will be missed by his wife, Betty, with whom he was blessed to share over 56 years of marriage; children, Charles "Michael" (Amy) Bordeau of Manitowoc, Mary (Patrick) Corby of Carlisle, PA, Robert (Joy) Bordeau, William (Peggy Behringer) Bordeau, both of Sturgeon Bay, Alexander Bordeau of Austin, TX, and Jennifer (Dale) Pollock of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Dawn, Charlene, La Tara, Dakota, and Dominic Bordeau, Jeffery and Timothy (Kelly) Corby, Joshua, Matthew (Hanna), Abby, Molly, and Max Bordeau, Crystal Bordeau and Victoria Blucher, Travis (Britton) and Tyler (Ashley) Bordeau, and Charlie and James Pollock; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Elizabeth (Ray) Campbell, Kaye Bergdahl, and Donald Bordeau; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Barbara; children, Connie Bordeau, Brenda Blucher, and (infant) Jeffery Bordeau; grandchildren, Paul Corby, Jeremy Bordeau, and Christopher Bordeau; brother, Alexander Clifford "Buck" Bordeau; siblings-in-law, David Bergdahl, Darrold (Betty) DeRemo, Herbert (Vivyan) DeRemo, Wayne (Christine) DeRemo, Nancy (Richard) Lundquist, Alice (Lawrence "Larry") Doolittle, and Dorothy (Marland) Moore; and other relatives.
Charlie's life will be honored with a memorial service held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Charlie will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of memorials, the family asks those who Charlie impacted to lend a helping hand to a neighbor and share generosity toward others.
"Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Marc Binard, Dr. Richard Hogan, and the staff from Door County Medical Center for the wonderful and compassionate care you provided."
