Charles Ike “C.I.” Brooks, 79, of Lee County, GA, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, at his residence surrounded by friends and family. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Eric Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
C.I. was born on October 4, 1944, to William Marcine and Elizabeth Bruner Brooks in Cuthbert, GA. He grew up in Clay County, where his family farmed and ran the general store. C.I. graduated from Clay County High School in 1962. He continued his education at South Georgia Technical and Vocational School in Americus and graduated in 1964. C.I. married Yvonnie Smith in 1965. They moved to Albany, GA, in 1965 and Lee County, GA, in 1994. C.I. was employed with Bell South for thirty-five years. He enjoyed deer hunting, dove hunting, and fishing following an early retirement. He was a member of Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
C.I. was the loving husband of the late Yvonnie Smith Brooks; the devoted father of Kelly (Greg) Donley of Lee County, GA; Marc Brooks (Chuck Chapman) of N. Haven, CT; Laura (Ward) Butts of Lee County, GA; and Dawn (Steve) Betts of Tallahassee, FL; the caring grandfather of Stephanie (Aaron) Selman of Lee County, GA; Brandon Donley of Orlando, FL; Conner and Cody Brooks-Chapman of N. Haven, CT; Emily (Shaun) Wolf of Jacksonville, FL; Leanne Butts of Cochran, GA; Chloe Butts of Lee County, GA; and Grayson Betts of Tallahassee, FL; the proud great-grandfather of Natalie, Sam, Morgan, and Lila; and the beloved brother of Becky Jordan of Decatur, AL; the late Regina King of Fernandina Beach, FL; Marcia Brooks of Lee County, Ga; and Linda Anthony of Ft. Gaines, GA.
The pallbearers are Mickey Adams of Dothan, AL; Carl King of Roswell, GA; Tommy King of Fernandina Beach, FL; Emmett McKenzie of Anthony, FL; David Mercer of Bronwood, GA; and Shaun Wolf of Jacksonville, FL.
